A quote from 3 Simple Rules: A Wesleyan Way of Living
Do No Harm Do Good Stay in Love with God O God, teach us today to do no harm, to do good, and assist us that we may stay in loving relationship with you and our neighbor. Help us today to be an answer to another's prayer so that we may be one of your signs of hope in the world you love. Amen. If we knew how to listen to God, if we knew how to look around us, our whole life would become prayer. For it [life] unfolds under God's eyes and no part of it must be lived without being freely offered to God. At first we communicate with God through words, which may be dispensed with later on. Words are only a means. The silent prayer which has moved beyond words must always spring from everyday life, for everyday life is the raw material of prayer. God’s Imagination So much of our energy, time and money goes into maintaining distance from one another. Many if not most of the resources of the world are used to defend ourselves against one another, to maintain or increase our power, and to safeguard our own privileged position. Imagine all that effort being put in the service of peace and reconciliation! Would there be any poverty? Would there be crimes and wars? Just imagine that there was no longer fear among people, no longer rivalry, hostility, bitterness or revenge. Just imagine all the people on this planet holding hands and forming one large circle of love. We say, “I can’t imagine.” But God says, “That’s what I imagine, a whole world not only created but also living in my image.” Henri J.M. Nouwen from Bread for the Journey
